A lot of us girls are having problems with our underarms. It could sometimes be the hair, the chicken skin brought about by plucking, prominent lines and sometimes could be the dreadful underarm odor!!
It is usually a dilemma for us girls because we all love wearing sleeveless blouses, tank tops, tube tops and summer dresses. But how could we possibly stray away from such embarrassments? I have come up with simple yet effective solutions for our underarm dilemmas.
Underarm Hairs
There are several ways to get rid of underarm hair. It could be shaving, plucking, waxing, using depilatory creams or laser hair removal. I myself have tried all these but I have settled for laser hair removal. It could be a little pricey compared to the other methods but it is all worth it. It not only minimizes the hair growth but it also helps to eliminate in-grown hair. Laser hair removal treatment is done for a couple of sessions. It depends on how hairy you are or how stubborn your underarm hairs are. Underarm hair would still grow back with the laser hair removal however the strand of the hair will be finer and the hair wll be noticeably reduced. After a few weeks of laser hair removal treatment, once the hair grows back, just shave them very lightly.
Dark Underarms
The worst culprit of all. There are many causes of dark underarms. Sometimes it could be due to too much shaving and plucking, irritants from deodorants and depilatory creams.
Shaving can cause dark underarms because the hair underneathe the skin becomes thick. As you shave it also sort of rubs the skin thus causing the skin to darken. If laser hair removal is a bit costly for you, you may switch from shaving to waxing your underarm hair. Regular waxing reduces hair growth over a period of time. It lightens the underarm too as it pulls the hair from its roots.
Aside from waxing, you can minimize your dark underarm by choosing the right deodorant. Sometimes deodorants are the ones which cause dark underarms. The chemical which prevents the underarm from sweating is actually bad for the skin. I myself do not use deodorant anymore for more than 3 years now. I am blessed that I do not perspire a lot and I make sure to keep a good hygiene every time to avoid body odor. I know of some people who do not use deodorants at all and are blessed with smooth and white underarms. If you think you can cut the deodorant off, then do so. So long as you take a bath regularly and wash your clothes very well, I don't think there is a reason for you to apply deodorant right?
To lighten your underarm, you could also try to lightly scrub your underarm with milk salts or lemon / lime and sugar. This will help exfoliate your skin removing dead skin cells. You can do the scrubbing once or twice a week and do not leave the lemon solution too long. 2 minutes will do. You can also use a reliable whitening soap (e.g. papaya soaps, licorice soaps) for bathing and you can also apply lotion or moisturizer to keep skin suple and smooth.
Prominent Lines
Aging is inevitable. But it doesnt mean that we cannot do something about it. Lines are caused by aging and gaining weight as well. Here's is a simple trick that you could do (and I did too):
Get some tomatoes and slice them and lightly scrub them on your underarm. The tomato juice naturally has an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) which eliminates signs of aging and improves the over-all look and feel of your skin. It also whitens and smoothens the underarm. This AHA is also being used by dermatologist for micro-peeling and anti-wrinkle treatments.
Well I hope you have learned something. Feel free to try some of the things mentioned above and feel free to post your comments. Goodluck!:)
